The NSF will fund a so-called IGERT project on Wind Energy beginning this spring. IGERT stands for: Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship Program. The SBS Center 'Communication for Sustainable Social Change (CSSC)' is a member of the steering committee for this project, under chief investigator Elisabeth M. Hamin, Associate Professor of Regional Planning. Click here for faculty contacts and information.

Dear UMass Faculty, Staff, and CSSC Fellows and Friends,
I’d like to urge your participation in this year’s UMass
Amherst Faculty and Staff Campaign.
I’d like to urge your participation in this year’s UMass
The Campaign represents an opportunity not only to support the University, but also, because the Chancellor’s Office is providing a 1:1 match of gifts up to $10,000, you can double the impact of your gift.
But that’s not all. For each dollar pledged to CSSC, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will match it with an additional $.50. This means every dollar you give to CSSC through the UMass Faculty and Staff Campaign becomes $2.50, simply by making a commitment now. In these economic times, that is an extraordinary return.
The Campaign allows you to specifically earmark your gift allocation. You can target your support to CSSC. You can decide to support student scholarships, CSSC programming, research, or make a memorial tribute. The choice is entirely yours.

“THE FUTURE OF US-CHINESE MEDIA COMMUNICATION
AND PUBLIC DIPLOMACY IN A POST-CRISIS WORLD”
held at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, USA
23-25 August 2011
The current international economic crisis has already transformed the financial, industrial and manufacturing sectors in the world; causing many people to lose their jobs and many families to suffer degradation of their well being. The impact of these changes is profound and is expected to radically alter the future relations among a number of political and economic powers. The US and China will most likely be at the forefront of this debate, which may lead to ‘adjustments’ on a world scale. This conference attempts to assess the future of US-Chinese relations from a number of inter-related perspectives. An underlying assumption being that a gradual change in economic and financial power will also lead to changes in ‘soft’ power like media communication, public relations, public opinion, public diplomacy and (new and old) media consumption.
